Sheep escape, but barn destroyed by blaze

WINFIELD TWP — Four sheep were spared but a century-old barn quickly burned to the ground in a fire this morning.
A Kubota tractor, hand tools, dirt bikes and other items were destroyed in the blaze shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Bear Creek Road.
“It’s an old wooden barn and when they catch fire it doesn’t take long for them to go up in flames,” said Chief John Hartman of the Winfield Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Damage was estimated at $100,000, authorities said. The property, owned by John and Mandy Bradley, was insured.
Hartman said the fire near the Winfield-Buffalo Township line did not appear to be suspicious.
