EVANS CITY — The Evans City Lions Club presented a check to the EDCO Park Authority representing funds raised last month at the BASF Chili Open. The amount to be donated will eventually total $4,500.

Lions Club members Robin Swank and Glenn Fulghum presented a $3,655 check to authority President John Rogers at last week’s borough council meeting. The remaining amount will come later.

Fulghum said the 4-year-old winter golf event grows each year. He said proceeds are up $600 over last year’s $3,900.

Rogers, who is a member of the Evans City Lions Club, gratefully accepted the check on behalf of the authority.

“I’m honored by it,” Rogers said.

The event at EDCO Park includes golf, chili provided by Sports and Spirits on Main Street, and prizes. BASF is as the main sponsor, and other businesses sponsor individual holes.

Rogers said, “When you do something four years in a row and it keeps getting bigger, you know you’re doing something right.”

Fulghum said the Lions Club decided to coordinate the event four years ago when it learned of the park authority’s financial need.

“Really, the park is the only place in town kids can go and do something inexpensively in the summer,” Fulghum said.
