Bomb threat forces evacuation at Mars HS

ADAMS TWP — Mars High School students were evacuated to Mars Middle School after lunch today after a note with a bomb threat was found.
Police vehicles blocked all entrances to the school on Route 228, and Superintendent William Pettigrew could be seen at 2 p.m. hurriedly leading a handful of officers from the Allegheny County Explosive Protection Team truck into the building’s main entrance. Soon after that, two officers led a dog from car to car in the parking lot in front of the school.
A letter on the district’s website said the school was closed, and that all sports and activities were canceled for this evening.
The letter said sweeps of the school would be performed today afternoon and again on Tuesday morning before the start of the school day. School will be held on Tuesday, albeit with heightened security.
