‘Army’ raised $21,000
Marty Goetz, Zelienople Zelienople Service Unit Salvation Army
I would like to express appreciation to everyone who supported the Zelienople Service Unit of the Salvation Army during the Christmas season. We had our red kettles at the Shop N Save and BiLo supermarkets during most of December. Jerry and Louise Burr were in charge of getting volunteers to ring the bell, and what a great group of bell ringers they recruited. Thanks to the bell ringers and our fantastic community, more than $21,000 was collected. The Freedom United Federal Credit Union, ESB Bank, Nextier Bank and Shop N Save had Treasurer Tag Trees. The tags had names and gift suggestions for students at Glade Run Lutheran Services in Zelienople. We had 100 names and 75 were taken. Our organization bought gifts, using some of the kettle money, for the names not taken. Thanks are in order to all who selected a tag and bought gifts. We also got in touch with area businesses for donations for items for Glade Run Lutheran Services. All year long, the Salvation Army is available to help families in the Zelienople area, but at Christmas the need is greater. So, “thank you” is really a small way to show our appreciation to the wonderful people in the area who supported us. Anyone interested in joining the Salvation Army’s Zelienople Serv-ice Unit should get in touch with Lloyd Hall at 724-452-5571. We are a very busy unit and always can use help.
