I am absolutely appalled that Butler County Commissioners William McCarrier and Dale Pinkerton voted to put subsurface drilling rights to Alameda Park up for sale.
I think the county has sunk to a new low. Is there nothing they won’t sell or do to make a buck?
First, the former county board of commissioners, about a year and a half ago, allowed timbering at the park, which should not have been done.
If that wasn’t enough, I don’t think McCarrier and Pinkerton know the meaning of the word “park.”
McCarrier said the drilling in question would not take place in the park itself, and I’m overjoyed about that. Our property directly borders Alameda Park, and I am greatly concerned about what’s going to happen now.
I applaud Commissioner Jim Eckstein for voting against this absurd proposal, but unfortunately one vote against two doesn’t do any good.
The next thing we know, the county will do what was sung about some years ago: “Pave paradise and put up a parking lot.”
