ZELIENOPLE — It has been a record fundraising year for the Connoquenessing Valley Community Chest, and the community groups it supports will benefit from that generosity.

As its annual fundraising effort wraps up at the end of January, the community chest already has raised $51,000, exceeding its goal of $35,000.

“We’re thankful that the community has been so generous. They’ve really done a great job,” said board member Pat Murray.

“It has been a record year,” said Murray, who said that in his decade of service to the community chest that this is the largest amount collected.

“I don’t know if it was the economy getting better or people are in a more giving mood. But, we’ve had a really great response,” said Murray.

The community chest’s fundraising has been successful over the past several years, exceeding its goals and raising more than $45,000 annually in those years.

In the past four years, residents and the business community have raised more than $175,000 to help the charities.

Murray reminded those still wanting to donate that there still are two weeks left to send in their donations.

The community chest raises money for the Zelienople Community Park, the Southwestern Butler County Food Cupboard, Meals on Wheels and the Zelienople Public Library. These organizations provide services to Zelienople, Harmony and Lancaster and Jackson townships.

In addition to individual donations, the community chest has a “club level” donating program, which recognizes larger donations of both individuals and businesses.

Donations can be mailed to: Connoquenessing Valley Community Chest, P.O. Box 343, Zelienople, PA 16063, or made through PayPal at the website:
