SV students make Honors Band

JACKSON TWP — More than 40 Seneca Valley students have earned a position in the 2012 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Honors Band.

Auditions were held on Nov. 13 for the Honors Band at Westminster College, and 43 students from Seneca Valley School District were selected out of 278 students from 25 different schools to be a part of the 120-member band. Seneca Valley had more students selected than any other school. Seneca Valley students also earned the most first chairs and the most Automatic District Band chairs of any other school.

The following students were chosen to join the Honors Band:

IUP names county Provost Scholars

INDIANA, Pa. — The following students from Butler County have been recognized as a Provost Scholar at Indiana (Pa.) University.

At the start of the fall semester, any undergraduate student who meets the following requirement is eligible to be named a Provost Scholar: a current junior with a minimum of 45 semester hours earned at IUP with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Provost Scholar recognition is given only once during a student’s time of study at IUP.

Clemson student on President’s List

CLEMSON, S.C. — Lyndsay Taylor Shackelford of Cranberry Township has been named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the fall 2012 semester.

Shackelford is majoring in food science.

To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

SV to hold sports physicals, testing

JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley will be holding baseline concussion testing, drug testing and spring sports physicals for students in grades 7 to 12, immediately after school on Jan. 31 and Feb. 28 in the senior high school.

Only one initial drug test, baseline concussion test, and physical are required per school year.

For drug testing, students must bring a completed Seneca Valley Parental/Guardian/Custodian Drug Testing Consent Form which is available in the office or at The $28 fee may be paid in cash or a check payable to SVSD.

For sports physicals, athletes are to submit a PIAA Comprehensive Physical Form. Sections 1-5 must be completed by a parent or guardian and the doctor will sign section 6. The $15 fee may be paid in cash or a check payable to S.V.S.D. Forms are available on the Internet at under the Athletics tab or in the Athletic Office.
