Hearing set on closing of Har-Mer Elementary

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The Slippery Rock School District will have a hearing next month to discuss whether to close Har-Mer Elementary School Elementary School.
The board Monday noted voted 6-1, with Vice President Ken Speer voting no, for a hearing at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the high school auditorium.
In 2011, a committee, made up of school board members, teachers and community members, was formed to look into options for the building. The committee presented its report to the board in May 2012, and recommended that the board look into cyber and charter school options at the building.
Superintendent Kathy Nogay said that discussions and rumors related to closing school in Harrisville happen every spring during budget discussions.
“My goal is to try to come to some closure or some finality for the folks that live in that community,” Nogay said.
