SLIPPERY ROCK — The borough’s three-term mayor will not seek re-election this year, but may remain involved in municipal government.
Ken Harris, a Democrat, said Tuesday that when his term is complete at the end of this year, he will have served in that position for 12 years.
“That’s a really long time,” Harris said, adding that it is time for him to step aside.
“I’m hoping that there will be other folks who step up (to run for mayor),” Harris said.
Although he will not run for mayor, he said that he probably will run in the April primary for borough council.
Harris, 76, a retired theater professor at Slippery Rock University, became mayor in 2002.
