Having spent the first week of November in Tennessee, I am wondering why Pennsylvania still has a population. Allow me to explain.

Let me first state that there is a 10 percent sales tax on almost everything in Tennessee. That tax, along with the state lottery, finances the school system. What little property tax there is goes to the counties.

There is no state income tax. That provision is written into the Tennessee constitution.

I saw no vehicle inspection stickers, so I assume there is no inspection requirement.

Gasoline was $3.07 a gallon (again, in November). When I got back to Butler, it was $3.65 a gallon.

And, lastly, there are six more weeks of spring-type weather and six fewer weeks of wintry weather, which to me translates into less money to heat one’s home.

I am not ready to move tomorrow, but if circumstances change, I will be ready to leave the overtaxed state of Pennsylvania, the state of my birth.
