Throughout 2012, thousands of Butler County residents gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to make other people’s lives better.
These donations came from a variety of fundraising events such as dinners, raffles, club activities, and months-long campaigns. Here is a sampling of the kind of fundraising that occurred this year. ✓ Jan. 1 — $4,000 HARMONY — About 75 people raised more than $4,000 for the Zelienople-Harmony Friends of the Park by jumping into the freezing Connoquenessing Creek. ✓ Jan. 28 — $3,900 EVANS CITY — The BASF Chili Open golf tournament, sponsored by the Evans City Lions Club, raised more than $3,900 for EDCO Park. ✓ Feb. 22 — $210,000 CRANBERRY TWP — About 430 people attended The Heart Ball hosted by The American Heart Association, Beaver Butler Counties division, and raised about $210,000. ✓ Aug. 31 — $1,000 CRANBERRY TWP — Sisters Jordan Henne, 9, and Rachel Henne, 7, raised more than $1,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by hosting a small festival at their home. ✓ Oct. 14 — $4,000 ADAMS TWP — The Mars Rod and Gun Club held a Shoot for the Lake benefit for the Glade Run Lake Conservancy. ✓ Nov. 6 — $17,000 JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Foundation, created in March, raised about $17,000 from donations.
