Woman jumps to safety before train hits car

DRAVOSBURG, Allegheny County — Authorities say a Western Pennsylvania woman escaped injury when she jumped from her car before it was hit by a freight train loaded with coal.
Police say the woman, in her 70s, didn’t make the turn onto the railroad crossing properly and her vehicle became stuck on the tracks on Route 837.
The woman called 911 and while she was reporting the incident to an Allegheny County dispatcher she heard a train whistle in the distance.
The dispatcher told the woman to get out of the car, which she was able to do before the train hit her vehicle.
The crash closed the crossing and tracks for about three hours.
