Students to perform with honors band
ADAMS TWP — Four members of Mars High School Band were selected by solo audition to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 5 Honors Band Festival, to be held Thursday through Saturday at Westminster College in New Wilmington.
Students are senior Marissa Lyerly (second chair clarinet); juniors Jeanna Sybert (fourth chair oboe) and Derek Prijatelj (fifth chair trumpet); and sophomore Ben Luce (fifth chair tuba). Matthew Roeder, University of Colorado — Boulder assistant professor and associate director of bands, will serve as guest conductor.
The event will conclude with a public concert at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in Westminster College's Orr Auditorium. Tickets CAN be purchased at the door.

School sets exam schedule
ADAMS TWP — Mars High School students in grades 9 to 11 will be taking the first round of the Pennsylvania Department of Education's new Keystone Exams from 7:50 to 9:20 a.m. on the following dates:
• Monday & Tuesday, — Algebra I Keystone Exam
• Wednesday & Thursday — English Literature Keystone Exam
• Friday, Dec. 7 & Monday, — Biology Keystone Exam.
All 11th and 10th graders will take all three exams with the following exception. Any sophomores who scored Advanced or Proficient on their eighth grade Algebra I Keystone Exam will not have to take any future Algebra I Keystone Exams (Note: All parents and students who do not have to take the exam have been notified.)
All ninth graders will take the Algebra I Keystone Exam with the exception of those currently enrolled in Algebra I — TE. Those students will not take the exam during the December testing window.

School to hold winter coat drive
ADAMS TWP — Mars High School student council is holding its annual winter coat drive from Monday through Friday.
The school is collecting new and gently used hats, gloves, boots and coats to be donated to students and families in need to help keep them warm during the cold winter months.

Elementary PTO to offer holiday stores
ADAMS TWP — Mars Elementary PTO will offer holiday stores at Mars elementary schools in December:
• Mars Centennial School — Monday and Tuesday, 724-625-2601
• Mars Elementary School — Thursday and Friday, 724-625-3161.
