Dr. Evanko sentenced to 6-15 years in prison
Noting that Dr. David Evanko had “a dark side” that he hid from most of the community, a judge today sentenced the once prominent Butler physician, Boy Scout leader and community altruist to serve up to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting one of the boys in his troop in the 1990s. Senior Judge Fred P. Anthony of Erie County, who presided over Evanko’s five-day trial, called it “hideous” that the doctor was able to assault his victim — then a vulnerable teenaged boy — so many times over three years. The judge, who had convicted Evanko, 59, of felony counts of statutory rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, on Monday deemed Evanko to be a sexually violent predator and sentenced him to serve 6 to 15 years in state prison. However, the judge delayed sending Evanko to prison until Monday so he could have Thanksgiving holiday with his family. The victim, now 32, testified during the trial that Evanko had assaulted him more than 100 times when he was between the ages of 13 and 18.
