Canoeist dead, husband presumed so in Kinzua

WARREN — A northwestern Pennsylvania woman is dead and her husband is presumed to have drowned after their canoe capsized while they were fishing in the Kinzua Reservoir.

According to state police, the body of 62-year-old Terry Lee Snyder of Kane was found drowned shortly after crews began searching for her and her husband, Michael, in Kinzua Bay.

Authorities believe their canoe capsized Sunday morning, based on witnesses who saw them in the boat shortly before it was found overturned.

Crews have struggled to find Michael Snyder’s remains because the canoe drifted so they’ve not been able to search a defined area and, so far, sonar has not located the man’s body.

Authorities say the woman’s body floated to the surface because of air trapped in her clothing, but say neither victim was seen wearing life preservers.
