COLLIER TWP — Both the boys and girls soccer teams at Mars competed in the playoffs this weekend, albeit with different results.
The girls' team won its third consecutive WPIAL crown Saturday when it defeated Moon by a score of 2-1. The team won in thrilling fashion as junior forward Karli Paracca scored in the second round of penalty kicks.
Mars (19-1-1) was to face Clearfield, the District 9 champion, in the first round of the state playoffs at 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Allegheny High School.
It was a much different story for the boys' team, however, as it lost in the waning seconds of a second overtime. The team lost 2-1 to Quaker Valley.
The deciding score came with just 4.2 seconds left in double overtime.
In other action, Seneca Valley girls soccer team fell to Peters Township by a score of 2-1 in overtime.
