Butler County's great daily newspaper

It's pretty bad . . .

It’s pretty bad when people in a restaurant complain to the manager about other people in the restaurant talking about subjects or opinions about which they disagree.

One’s opinions are protected by the Constitution. This is supposed to be a free country.

It’s pretty bad when people cannot resolve their problems and differences without killing or violence.

It’s pretty bad when even a church might get sued for putting a Ten Commandments plaque on church property because the plaque might be seen by students from a nearby public school. I thought our Constitution protected and allowed churches to express their religious faith on private church property.

It’s pretty bad when people continually litter and dirty-up a city with trash that should be deposited in garbage containers. Don’t those people have any civic pride?

It’s pretty bad when people are burdened with paying property taxes even when they are unemployed, under-employed or living on fixed, low incomes. Taxes should be based on one’s ability to pay.

If the federal and state governments can give tax foregiveness to those whose incomes are very low, so should school districts.

A sales tax is the fairer way to fund public schools. People shouldn’t have to lose their homes because of their inability to pay school property taxes.
