I am a certified nursing assistant who works at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. My top priority is giving the seniors there a chance to live out their years in dignity.

This should be a top priority of county officials as well. Instead, we see an attempt to make Sunnyview the scapegoat for Butler County’s financial problems.

And, who pays the price in the end? It’s the residents, employees and citizens of Butler County who rely on Sunnyview.

Rather than singling out Sunnyview, which brings in millions of dollars for the county each year, our county commissioners should be looking across the board to find savings to solve our county’s budget problems.

They should be working to secure Medicare and Medicaid dollars, and urging Gov. Tom Corbett to accept the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

We need our politicians to stand up for the citizens and seniors of Butler County, and work hard to give Sunnyview what it needs to provide the best care.

Sooner or later, most of us will need geriatric care and many of us will look to Sunnyview to provide it.

We need to look at the big picture of what matters for our community, both today and down the road.
