SV teachers plan 2013 Europe tour
JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley Intermediate High School German teacher Heather Sibeto, accompanied by fellow teachers, Kate Dankosky, Debbie McDermott, Marie McLachlan and Clare Thomas, took 39 grade 9-12 students on a 14-day tour of Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
The main focus was for the students to experience other cultures and history first-hand. During the tour, the students learned how to make Italian gelato, toured castles in Germany, investigated Roman ruins, walked through the Dachau Concentration Camp, rode a luge in the Swiss Alps and sailed the canals of Venice in gondolas.
Sibeto and Dankosky have led four student-tours to European countries including, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Czech Republic and Poland. Their students have visited historical landmarks in Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Vienna, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Lucerne and Prague, as well as Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camps and Vatican City. Sibeto also traveled to Beijing, China, in 2011 as an experienced group leader to help train new group leaders.
Sibeto is currently planning their 2013 student-tour with stops in Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucerne and Heidelberg. An informational parent meeting will be held at 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2012, in the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, Room 107.
