Every week, The Cranberry Eagle will spotlight a local educator, providing a glimpse into what makes them tick.

QUESTION: Why did you become a teacher?

ANSWER: I first knew I wanted to become a teacher in high school. As captain of my high school dance team, I loved helping the younger members of the squad. Now, being a first grade teacher, I find working with children incredibly rewarding. Watching a child’s face light up the first time they learn a new concept gives me such joy. I am excited to come to school each day.

QUESTION: What is one sentence that sums up what you believe is the key to teaching?

ANSWER: I believe the key to teaching is ensuring you are teaching the whole child; this includes not only their academic needs but also meeting their physical, social and emotional needs.

QUESTION: When you’re not teaching, you most likely can be found doing what?

ANSWER: When I am not working with the students I can usually be found playing with my puppy, Jack. I also love curling up under a blanket and reading a good book!

QUESTION: What is one thing about you that likely would surprise your students?

ANSWER: In 2005, I went paragliding off the Alps and more recently went skydiving.
