Butler Memorial honored by state
Butler Memorial Hospital is in elite company, according to the state Department of Health.
The hospital is one of seven hospitals in the state, and the only one in this area, to get the department’s award for Excellence in Health Care Compliance out of 244.
Michael Wolf, acting secretary of health, presented the award Friday to the hospital.
Hospitals that received the award had no health citations during their previous state licensure surveys and no major safety code deficiencies during their last building inspections.
Wolf said that being 100 percent compliant is a major accomplishment.
“I think you should be incredibly proud of yourself,” Wolf said.
He said the award came about because the department wanted to identify hospitals in the state that use the “best practices,” and to use those hospitals as “positive reinforcement” for others.
Ken DeFurio, president and CEO of the Butler Health System, said that the hospital’s staff provided the care that made the award possible.
“They make it happen,” DeFurio said.
Stephanie Roskovski, COO of the health system, said that the staff is committed to the “patient experience.”
“This group of people ... make this care possible,” Roskovski said.
