RICHMOND, Va. — The state of Virginia is appealing a jury’s wrongful death verdict on the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 dead. The attorney general’s office filed the appeal today in state Supreme Court. In March, a jury in Montgomery County returned a wrongful death verdict against the state. Jurors awarded each family $4 million but a judge later reduced the damages to $100,000 for each family. Attorneys claim several lower court errors should reverse that verdict. The state is seeking a new trial.
