McCalmont Road crash victim identified

BUTLER TWP — Police have identified the driver who was injured Thursday morning when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed and rolled on McCalmont Road.

Thomas Rockenstein II, 39, of Butler was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after the crash about 6:50 a.m., township police said.

He later was listed in stable condition.

Police said Rockenstein was traveling west on McCalmont Road when he lost control of his 2006 Kia Sportage. The SUV went off the road, hit a tree stump and flipped onto its roof.

One officer broke the vehicle’s back window to reach him. Meridian volunteer firefighters eased him out of the SUV on a back board, police said

The road was shut down for about two hours after the wreck.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
