Slippery Rock doesn’t win in bloom contest

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Slippery Rock In Bloom did not win any awards at the America In Bloom National Symposium and Awards, which ended over the weekend.
Judy Hughes, president of the Slippery Rock Rotary Club from 2011-2012, was the one member of the Slippery Rock In Bloom committee to attend the event, which was Thursday to Saturday.
Slippery Rock competed against Hummelstown, Dauphin County; Gallipolis, Ohio; and Lakeside, Ohio, in the 3,001 to 4,500 population category. It was one of 27 municipalities of all sizes around the United States that competed.
Slippery Rock In Bloom started in 2010 as the president’s project for the Slippery Rock Rotary Club.
Rotary members, committee members and volunteers spent much of late 2011 and early 2012 preparing for the judges’ arrival. They planted thousands of flowers, raised money and organized cleanup days.
National judges visited Slippery Rock for two days in June.
