Man stable after attack by tiger at Bronx Zoo
NEW YORK — A 25-year-old man who jumped from a monorail train into a tiger den at the Bronx Zoo is in stable condition after being mauled by a 400-pound tiger.
A hospital spokeswoman says the family of David Villalobos asks that no other information be provided.
The mauling happened Friday in the Wild Asia exhibit, where a train with open sides takes visitors over the Bronx River and through a forest.
The zoo director says the tiger did nothing wrong and will not be euthanized.
Passengers aren’t strapped in, and Villalobos apparently jumped out forcefully enough to clear a 16-foot-high perimeter fence.
Villalobos was alone with a male Siberian tiger for about 10 minutes before he was rescued. He suffered bites and punctures on his arms, legs, shoulders and back and broke an arm and a leg.
