Federal grant to fund natural gas station in Butler
A $2.4 million federal grant announced today will help the Butler Transit Authority to open a compressed natural gas fueling station — the first such facility open for public use in Butler County — in 2014. A portion of the grant will be used to fund the second phase of construction on the BTA’s transit center on Hollywood Drive, which includes a passenger waiting area for interconnecting bus routes and park and ride commuters. The authority announced in October last year that its plans to build the compressed natural gas filling station on its Hollywood Drive property between 2013 and 2014. It hope to open the facility by January 2014, though 2015 seems more likely. It will be available to authority vehicles, BART vehicles and other commercial and private vehicles at separate nearby fueling areas.
