Hiker found at Moraine
MUDDY CREEK TWP — A missing Allegheny County hiker was found unhurt early this morning in Moraine State Park. Crews found Judith Outly, 60, of Avalon about 3 a.m. and took her to a hospital as a precaution. Jake Weiland, assistant park manager, said that a park ranger found Outly’s vehicle on the South Shore of the park about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. He checked the license plate number and discovered that the woman’s family had reported her missing earlier in the day. The ranger contacted Weiland and park manager Dan Bickel and park employees began a search of the area for about 30 minutes. Following that, the park called emergency crews to help search for Outly. The Portersville/Muddy Creek Volunteer Fire Company, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, Portersville EMS and the Evans City police canine unit responded to the incident. Weiland said that emergency crews arrived quickly. The park contacted Outly’s family to find out more about her. “She does enjoy hiking, however, she does not go more than two miles at a time,” Weiland said. He said that information was helpful, and crews were able to concentrate their search. A few hours later, crews found Outly. She was about a half a mile from her car. Outly has a cell phone, but it was in her car. The search was challenged by the darkness of the park. The area that crews searched has heavy vegetation and no natural light.
