BUTLER TWP — The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy Saturday to determine what happened to an infant boy who was found dead Friday afternoon at the Super 8 Motel on Route 8.
The medical examiner’s office identified the 5-week-old child as James Victor Jr., born to a couple from Tarentum, whose names have not yet been released by police.
The medical examiner’s office is not permitted to release the parents’ names.
The baby was discovered with his parents in a room at the motel about 2:40 p.m. and was officially pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m. No funeral home has been designated for the child yet.
According to published reports, police began searching for the couple after a note was found at an Avalon motel indicating the parents were distraught over the death of their child and planned to kill themselves, but had been unsuccessful.
After the couple and their baby were found at the Super 8, Butler Township police were assisted by Allegheny County homicide detectives and the Allegheny County’s mobile crime unit at the scene.
Employees at the Super 8 Motel had no comment Saturday morning, and phone calls to police in Avalon and Butler Township were not returned.
