Abandoned suitcase in Pittsburgh square full of clothing

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police reopened a busy downtown square after a bomb squad blew up a suitcase that was found abandoned near a trash container.
The call reporting the suitcase came in about 8:40 a.m. today and Market Square remained closed until after the suitcase was destroyed by a bomb squad water cannon shortly before 11 a.m.
Police say the suitcase contained clothes and other personal effects. X-rays showed wiring in the suitcase, but police later determine that was because the case contained an unspecified electrical device.
The square is a popular gathering place, particularly during the lunch hour, where the city’s business crowd can eat outside at one of several restaurants.
