Friday’s storms cause power outages, flooding

Friday’s thunderstorms downed power lines in Connoquenessing, Forward and Slippery Rock townships, as well as a few locations in Butler city, according to Butler County emergency dispatchers. Flooded basements were reported in Buffalo and Lancaster townships, as well as in Mars.
As of Saturday morning, West Penn Power reported about 1,500 customers were still without power in Butler County, with Buffalo, Middlesex and Slippery Rock townships among the hardest-hit remaining areas. The utility said almost all customers should have electricity by 6 p.m. Saturday.
Central Electric Cooperative’s most recent report states about 1,300 members still are without power, but all are expected to have their electricity restored by Saturday night.
