Woman injured in car crash near YMCA

A young woman was hurt this morning when the car she was driving crashed into a utility pole at Walnut and Washington streets near the YMCA in Butler.
The car, which was traveling west on Walnut Street when it sheared off the pole about 11:35 a.m., continued across Washington Street and hit an unoccupied van parked in a YMCA-members’ parking lot next to the Emily Brittain Elementary School.
Police did not immediately release the name of the woman, believed to be in her early 20s.
She was unconscious when passersby saw the crash and went to help her. She was wearing a seat belt.
Butler Fire Department paramedics were quickly on the scene to treat the woman, who later was in and out of consciousness, said Butler Fire Chief Nick Ban.
She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. The hospital did not release any information about her condition.
Police did not immediately file a report and they would not comment on speculation that the woman possibly suffered a medical emergency at the time of the crash.
