The Mars Home for Youth will hold Swing Into Summer, a fundraiser dinner, Friday at the Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park.
The event, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature dinner, silent and live auctions, entertainment and dancing, and keynote speakers. This is Mars Home for Youth’s first fundraising gala. The organization planned the event to spread awareness of its needs and celebrate its recent successes. Mars Home for Youth Executive Director Martin Harris and 2010 winner of the John Heinz Dissertation Award author Jessie Ramey will speak at the event. Ramey will discuss her findings during the process of writing her award-winning book, “Childcare in Black and White: Working Parents and the History of Orphanages.” Ramey earned the John Heinz Award from the National Academy of Social Insurance, the Lerner-Scott Prize in women’s history from the Organization of American Historians and the Herbert G. Gutman Prize from the Labor and Working-Class History Association. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the fundraising dinner. Ramey will be there to sign copies. All net proceeds from book sales at the event will be donated to Mars Home for Youth. Multiple sponsorship levels are still available for the dinner. Individual dinner tickets are also available for $100 each.
