Legion effort ignored
On May 13, I was approaching the entrance of Walmart. The American Legion was offering a “red poppy” to people entering the store for a small donation.
I was amazed how many people diverted their eyes or just ignored these volunteers.
I understand that in these economic hard times people can’t donate to every organization. But if someone can ride to the store in a $30,000 sport utility vehicle, he or she should be able to donate to a worthwhile cause.
It also was clear which people had had a loved one in the military.
I hope some of the people who passed by the volunteers that day will read this and donate the next time they see the red poppy.
People should remember that many of our military have given their lives so we all can live in a free country.
By the way, the red poppies are made by disabled veterans.
