The Mars girls soccer team had goals from seven different players in a 7-0 victory over Southmoreland in the team's season opener Saturday.

Mars, the defending WPIAL Class AA champions, received goals from Lydia Dennis, Mani Brueckner, Karli Paracca, Amber Fichter, Trisha Glavin and Jordyn White.

<B>University Prep 20, Summit Academy 6 — </B>Rashaun Burney's 54-yard touchdown run accounted for the Knights' lone score in this non-conference loss Saturday.Summit Academy quarterback Sean McCausland completed nine of 14 passes for 66 yards, but was intercepted twice. Freeport defeated Knoch 25-23, 18-25, 15-8 in the championship final to capture the 12-team Slippery Rock Tournament on Saturday.Freeport had defeated Slippery Rock, and Knoch defeated Punxsutawney by identical 2-0 scores in the semifinals.“That was a great start for us,” said Freeport coach Tom Phillips. “It's always good to win an early tournament and there was some good competition there.”In the one-game quarterfinals; Freeport, Knoch, Slippery Rock and Punxsutawney had downed Laurel, Wilmington, A-C Valley and Hickory, respectively.<B>First Baptist Christian 3, Seeds of Faith Christian School 0 — </B>Lauren Hughes connected on 10 consecutive serves to erase a 20-10 second-game deficit in a 25-4, 25-23, 25-15 victory.Noelle Garrison and Heather Johnson had five aces apiece to seal the win.
