Franklin man killed in Rt. 8 crash

IRWIN TWP, Venango County — A Franklin man was killed in an early morning crash on Route 8.

Neil D. Jolley, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a 1988 GMC Sierra south when he was struck by a northbound vehicle just south of Georgetown Road, which is 2 miles north of the Interstate 80 interchange.

The driver of the northbound Dodge Dakota was taken by ambulance to the Grove City Medical Center and then flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with severe injuries.

State police in Franklin identified that driver as Lawrence Wetzel, 42, of Pittsburgh.

Jolley was wearing a seat belt, but police were unsure if Wetzel was.

Police said Wetzel was trying to pass another northbound vehicle. Both drivers maneuvered to avoid the crash and that's when Jolley's vehicle hit Wetzel's, police said.

The investigation continues.
