Winfield Twp. man suffers burns in mobile home fire

WINFIELD TWP — A resident suffered burns early Sunday morning in a mobile home fire at 103 Hickory Lane.

The 55-year-old man, who firefighters did not identify, was sleeping in his home on Hickory Lane off Moorehead Road when the fire broke out about 5:30 a.m. He escaped with burns on his back and was at a neighbor's home by the time the Winfield Township Fire Department arrived, Fire Chief John Hartman said.

The man was flown by medical helicopter to West Penn Hospital. His condition this morning was not known, but Hartman said the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

Hartman, who said flames were through the roof of the home when he arrived, described the fire as fast-moving. He said firefighters never entered the home, but attacked it from outside. They were there for more than four hours.

The home is considered a total loss, but Hartman hadn't made a damage estimate.

It is unknown if the home was insured.

A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Hartman said where the fire started in the home wasn't known this morning.

Assisting Winfield was Buffalo Township, Sarver, South Buffalo and Saxonburg fire departments.
