City man accused of child luring try

He's in prison on $25,000 bail

Butler police arrested a 28-year-old man Tuesday on charges he tried to lure a 5-year-girl from her city home two weeks ago.

Scott Christopher Walker of Butler, who is in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail, is charged with interfering with the custody of children and attempted child interference, both felonies.

He also faces misdemeanor charges of false identification to law enforcement authorities and disorderly conduct.

Police began investigating the case June 18 when the girl's father reported an unknown man about 5:45 p.m. tried to get the girl to come with him.

The father said he was in the living room of his home on Carbon Street when he heard his daughter speaking to someone.

He looked outside, according to court documents, and saw the suspect motioning for the girl to come out of the home. The father went outside to confront the man, and asked him what he was doing.

"The (suspect)," a police affidavit said, "replied that he was just telling her 'Hi,' and then the male took off running toward Second Street."

Several days later, the girl's father told police that he since learned the suspect had asked his daughter on "numerous occasions to come with him."

Walker's listed address on Cecelia Street is three blocks away from the girl's home.

The child's father June 24 called police to report seeing Walker walking on Carbon Street. Police stopped Walker, who apparently agreed to speak with the investigating officer last Friday.

But Walker never showed up. Police also learned that he had given police a false name, address and birth date, when he was stopped June 24, documents said.

However, an old telephone number Walker provided turned up his name.
