Buffalo Township bank robbed
BUFFALO TWP — Police are searching for a middle-aged man who robbed the National City Bank on South Pike Road about noon Wednesday.
The man entered the bank and went up to one of two open teller stations. He had no weapon, no note and wore no disguise, said Buffalo Township Patrolman Tim Derringer
"He told the teller, 'Give me the money, now,' Derringer said. 'He also told her, "No dye packs."
The suspect is white, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and about 270 pounds. Police believe he is in his late 40s or early 50s. He was clean shaven with black hair.
He wore a burgundy, button-up fleece shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.
The teller handed the robber an unspecified amount of currency in various denominations.
"He shoved the money into an interior shirt pocket," Derringer, "then left."
Six employees were in the bank but no one was injured. A lone customer — an elderly man — walked out just as the robber entered.
The suspect fled north out of the bank's parking lot on foot.
Police believe that a red coupe, possibly a Chevrolet Cavalier, that surveillance camera captured is the vehicle the robber came and left in, police said.
Immediately after the robbery, the teller hit the panic alarm and Derringer, who was in his patrol car nearby, was at the bank within moments.
The bank's surveillance system captured images of the robber. Police and the FBI, who are assisting the investigation, were ecstatic with the quality of the security video.
"The pictures are as clear as day," Derringer said. "We released his picture to the media and we hope someone out there recognizes this guy."
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-295-9500, or 911.
The bank, which is on the corner of Route 356 and Cole Road, meanwhile, remained closed for the day, following the robbery.
