SUMMIT TWP — A family of seven lost their house to a fire early Sunday morning.
No one was home when the fire started in a two-story wooden house on Dittmer Road.
Christine Manchester and her six children, ages 4 to 15, were all safe nearby at their grandparents' house, said Josie Rhodaberger, Manchester's mother.
The family will be staying there until they make other arrangements, Rhodaberger said.
Neighbor Amy Tebay said that she called 911 after noticing flames across the street around 12:30 a.m.
Firefighters from Herman, Lick Hill and numerous other departments used tanker trucks to fight the blaze, though the house and all its contents were destroyed.
Fire crews doused a brick house next door throughout the night to prevent the fire from spreading. The house across the street had some siding melt from the heat.
