County man jailed on child luring charge
RICHLAND TWP, Allegheny County — A Butler County man faces a hearing later this month on charges he tried to lure a 17-year-old girl into his vehicle last week. But the suspect, 24-year-old Mitchell Gregory Klein of West Sunbury, allegedly told authorities that he was just a “nice guy” offering a girl a ride on a cold day. Northern Regional Police Chief Bob Amann, however, wasn’t sold on that explanation. Amann claimed Klein was too persistent and “kept asking and kept asking. Nice guys don’t do that.” Klein was arrested Wednesday after police identified him using surveillance video from a gas station showing the suspect in a car matching one the girl says approached her about 3 p.m. at a Pine-Richland School District bus stop Monday. District Judge Suzanne Renee Blaschak of West Deer arraigned the defendant on a charge of attempted luring of a child into a vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor. Klein, following his arraignment, told reporters, “No, I did not” when asked if he tried to lure the girl into his vehicle. He is in the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for April 10.
