Mars to build better bleachers

ADAMS TWP — Mars Planets fans with physical challenges and high school bands will find new and improved bleachers at the athletic complex this football season.

The Mars School Board on Tuesday night approved a $194,000 bleacher construction project that will provide handicapped accessible areas plus seating for marching band members in both the home and away seating areas.
Superintendent William Pettigrew reminded the board that budget constraints and unknowns in the two construction projects planned at that time caused the bleacher improvement project to be dropped.
He said funds leftover from the construction projects at the Centennial and elementary schools completed last year will pay for the project, so the budget will not be impacted.
Pettigrew said he was pleased when the successful bidder from two years ago, Stadium Solutions, agreed to complete the bleacher project for the price it originally submitted.
He said concrete and framing work under the new bleacher section will begin in the spring, and the project will be done before the start of the fall football season.
