Evans City contractor accused of forging checks
He allegedly stole them from home

ADAMS TWP — A Butler County contractor is accused of forging and cashing two checks that he allegedly stole from a customer’s home in the township.
Jason M. Prosser, 28, of Evans City is wanted on an arrest warrant on felony and other charges in the case.
Adams Township police suspect Prosser on Dec. 9 took several checks from John Kraus’ home on Forsythe Road. Kraus had previously hired the defendant to help renovate his home.
Police believe Prosser took the checks from the home when he knew Kraus was away on a hunting trip, court documents said.
Kraus discovered the missing checks when he returned home Dec. 10. He went to his bank the next day and learned that two checks had been cashed without his knowledge.
Both checks, police said, had been made out to and cashed by Prosser. Kraus’ signature on the checks appeared to be forged.
One of the checks was written on Dec. 10 and cashed for $200. The other was backdated to Dec. 2 and cashed for $150.
Kraus told police he called the defendant, who admitted wrongdoing, documents said.
Police on Jan. 3 charged Prosser with two counts each of forgery, a felony, and identity theft and theft, both misdemeanors.
