Preliminary hearing slated for Feb. 12

EVANS CITY — State police Thursday arrested a borough man following an investigation into the sharing of child pornography on the Internet.

District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned 41-year-old Scott Leslie Hughes on 123 counts of distributing and possessing child porn. He is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.
An Indiana County detective initiated the probe Oct. 21 while conducting an online undercover investigation. The detective discovered a computer that was downloading and sharing illicit files with other users.
The files, according to court documents, depicted children engaged in or simulating sexual acts.
State police eventually took over the investigation and the suspect computer was traced to Hughes, authorities said.
Investigators, in turn, got a search warrant for the defendant’s home. Police seized a computer and external hard drive.
A forensic analysis of the evidence turned up “hundreds of files which depict child pornography,” a police affidavit said.
A preliminary hearing for Hughes is set Feb. 12. His attorney, William E. Brennan of Pittsburgh, declined to comment about the charges.
