Dick’s suspends sale of some guns
FINDLAY TWP, Allegheny County — Dick’s Sporting Goods is suspending the sale of some guns in response to the school shooting Dec. 14 in Connecticut. “We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, Conn., and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community,” the company said Tuesday in a statement. Last Friday, gunman Adam Lanza entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed 20 children and six adults before turning the gun on himself. The company suspended the sale of “modern sporting rifles” in all of its stores. Additionally, it removed all guns from sale and from display at its store nearest to Newtown. “We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy,” the statement said. It also is destroying some already printed advertising circulars, which includes gun sales, and replacing them with new circulars. The company has more than 500 stores in 44 states.
