ADAMS TWP — A scaled-back version of Paul Adametz’s plans for the Adams Township Golf Center across from Quality Gardens on Route 228 was approved Monday night by the township supervisors. The golf center will include a driving range that parallels Route 228, with golfers driving balls from west to east. Hitting away from Route 228 was impossible because of a ravine and stream on the property, said township code enforcement officer Gary Peaco. Peaco said the tee boxes will be 350 yards from the road. Supervisor Russ Ford was leery about customers hooking balls onto Route 228, but township solicitor Mike Gallagher said Adametz and his new partner hired a specialized designer who researched trajectory and other factors in planning the facility. No representatives of the golf center attended Monday night’s supervisors meeting. Supervisor Linda Lees suggested tabling the vote until Adametz and his partner, who was not named, could attend a meeting. But chairman Donald Aiken urged the supervisors to vote on the plans because they were approved by the township planning commission. The supervisors did approve the facility contingent upon a handful of conditions, including moving the driveway so it is more parallel with Route 228. Adametz in 2009 presented to the supervisors plans for a large recreational facility called Valencia Sports Park that would eventually include a driving range, batting cages, a concession stand, baseball fields and a miniature golf course. Because the developers did not attend Monday’s meeting, it was not known if the other features would be added later.
