Mars schedules 2-hour delays
ADAMS TWP — Mars School District’s 2012-13 school calendar includes several scheduled two-hour delays. Remaining delays will be on the following dates: Thursday, Feb. 4, March 20 and April 18. Band competes in championship ADAMS TWP — The Mars High School Marching Band will compete in the 2012 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association Class AAA Championship Saturday at Penn-Trafford High School in Harrison City. At the 2011 PIMBA Championship, the band took second place with a combined score of 85.55 and achieved a High Music award. This year’s marching show features the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, including the songs: “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “After the Love Has Gone,” “Let’s Groove” and “Getaway.” Students to perform with honors chorus ADAMS TWP — Two members of Mars High School Chorus were selected by solo audition to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Honors Chorus Festival, to be held Thursday through Saturday, at Westminster College in New Wilmington. Senior Chris Blahnik and junior Dalton Smith will perform alongside 96 of the best high school musicians from more than 50 school districts. Judith Burns of Ohio will serve as guest conductor. The event will conclude with a public concert at 2 p.m. Saturday in Orr Auditorium. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the door. Mars offerd winter sports physicals ADAMS TWP — Mars School District will offer physicals for 2012-13 winter sports beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mars High School and at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mars Middle School. Cost is $15 per student. Checks can be made payable to “Dr. Ira Baumgartel.” All student-athletes interested in participating in sports must undergo one comprehensive physical evaluation per year. In addition, all student-athletes must complete specific Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) forms to be eligible to participate. To obtain the necessary physical forms, visit the “Athletics” page on the district’s website, www.marsk12.org. Mars School District charges a $100 Athletic Participation Fee per student per sport. Checks should be turned in with physical forms to the Nurse’s Office in the student’s individual building. No athlete will be permitted to practice, without a completed physical and paid fee. School collecting Candy for Cause ADAMS TWP — Mars Primary Center will hold a “Candy Collection,” Thursday through Nov. 9 to benefit The Lighthouse Foundation Food Bank in Middlesex Township. Students are asked to bring in any unopened and unwanted Halloween candy. Donations may also be dropped off at the school’s main office during school hours.
