Seneca art teacher wins best of show



CRANBERRY TWP — Winners were announced Friday at the opening night of the Associated Artists of Butler County “Art Faculty Show” at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center. More than $1,000 in cash prizes were awarded.
The exhibit also was shown in September at The Art Center in Butler.
Jason Woolslare, an art teacher at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, captured best of show for his acrylic painting “BCH CYG.”
He says the letters on the painting are a tribute to his great uncle who was killed in the Army Air Corps during WWII and to his father who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Those two time periods are commingled subtly as well in the layers in the underpainting.
The appearance of torn edges represents being war-torn, as in lost love, loss of innocence, and division of a nation.

Mary Mason, honorable mention, for jewelry.
The exhibit continues through Nov. 9 at the municipal center and is sponsored by AABC and the Cranberry Township Community Chest.
