Fall extravaganza returns

ZELIENOPLE — The Country Fall Festival will again showcase unique charm, wares and entertainment for families this weekend along Main Street at the Four Corners Park and at the Zelienople Municipal Airport.
Hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“We have lots of food and lots of good music this year,” said Ethel Mae Hall, festival chairman. “There's a wide variety of food, crafts and entertainment that will appeal to families.”
This is the 28th year for the old-fashioned community fall festival. It has family entertainment, children's pony rides and games, live music, food, crafts, historic education, farm markets and antiques.
A new item this year includes a visit by the Amish, who will sell their large donuts. They will be there Friday selling donuts before the festival, as well, Hall said.
The chili cook-off will be held in the South Main Street parking lot at the corner of Main and Spring streets. There are youth and adult divisions.
Some returning favorites include sidewalk sales, crafters, an antiques and collectible fair, contests, horse drawn wagon rides and farm animals.
There will be food vendors at the Four Corners Park and south on Main Street to Beaver Street. Downtown restaurants will also be open.
There will be a free shuttle service on both days, sponsored by Lutheran Senior Life Passavant Retirement Community, that will have stops at the retirement community, Walgreens, Fuel On, Roach & Ziegler and the airport. For service, call 724-272-0932.
The horse drawn trolley rides will be done by Friendship Hill Equine Services. Hall said it takes five minutes for a horse ride of 20 to 25 people in a wagon.
“During the course of the festival, 2,500 people will take that horse drawn wagon around the block,” she said.
Outdoor music and entertainment will be at the gazebo and at sites on Main Street.
Some of the musical entertainment will include Pat Blackburn, Jonathan Fisher, The Shankin' Bacon Cloggers, Bill Campbell, Big Tom Perkins, In the Light, Geresti Music, The Banjo All-Stars, and the Robert Huber Family.
There will be historic encampments on both days by the Independent Mountain Men of Pennsylvania and the 101st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
The Independent Mountain Men is a living history group representing the American frontier period of 1700 to 1840. There will be historical talks, fireside cooking, tomahawk throwing and other demonstrations.
Members of the 101st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry will share information about life during the Civil War.
Hall said returning for his second season to the encampment is an American Indian historic recreationist “Ghost-In-The Head,” as a 1750 to 1800 Huron who will demonstrate arts and traditions.
There also will be an antique corn grinding machine and other old machinery demonstrations.
The airport and the Condor Aero Club will offer airplane rides for $25. The 30-minute rides around Zelienople will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
The inaugural Wings & Wheels Invitational Motor Show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Condor Aero Club will display its antique airplanes and Hahn and Woodward Auto Restoration has 65 invited specialty cars coming for the show.
