Police arrest 16 in Butler County drug bust

A drug sweep targeting suspected dealers trafficking to high school age youths and young adults in southern Butler County has yielded 16 arrests.
Most of the suspects picked up Thursday are accused of selling marijuana or LSD; but others also dealt heroin or psychedelic mushrooms, county Detective Pat Cannon said. Cannon heads the Butler County Drug Task Force.
For most of those rounded up, this was their first arrest. But though the suspects are considered "low-level" dealers, Cannon said their arrests are significant.
"This is a parent's worst nightmare:these are the kids that sell to the kids,"Cannon said. "This is as important, maybe more, as if he had taken down some big dealer, who doesn't have contact with the kids."
Joining the drug task force in the sweep that began around the crack of dawn were police in Cranberry Township, Adams Township and Zelienople, county detectives and county probation officers.
